Hi All!
If you’re anything like me, you have a lot of makeup that you aren’t necessarily using every day, but you still want to have to hand. When was the last time you were getting ready and started wondering to yourself when you last saw THAT particular lippie?
If this happens fairly regularly, then you might want to look at different ways of organising your makeup and toiletries. This way, your favourite pieces will stay looking beautiful, and the things you need every day will always be right where you need them!
1. Try see-through containers
Disclaimer: this probably won’t be the prettiest way to display your makeup, but it will be super efficient. If you can keep it in a bathroom or a corner and you aren’t too worried about having a plain, plastic storage solution, then this is great for organisation. You’ll be able to see things at a glance, and you have lots of options for how you choose to organise.
Divide your drawers into categories that make sense to you, whether that be face/eyes/lips, or something even more specific like night out/everyday makeup. Then stick to it!
2. Use wall space rather than tablespace
Attach a curtain rod, and hang cute pots to keep your brushes, makeup pencils and daily essentials in.
If you have a suitable door, you could even hang storage off of that, too. Or, fit some extra storage to the inside of the bathroom unit doors.
3. Tip – Fill Your Brush Pot
If you have lots of makeup brushes in a single pot, and you want to be able to see them all at once, try filling the makeup pot with something to support the brushes and help them stand to attention. I’ve seen people using coffee beans, marbles and more in the bottom of their brush pot. Then, you can stand the brushes up and see them at a glance!
4. Try a Beauty Board
This is for the ones who LIVE for organisation. Get yourself a metal board (a new baking tray will do) and cover it in a paper or material. Next, glue small magnets onto the back of the products that you want to present.
You can stick the products to the board, and either attach the board to the wall or lean it up against your furniture.
This works best for palettes, blushers, bronzers; things with a flat side for the magnet. Now, keeping your makeup organised and ready to go is super easy!
5. Tip – Paint the Top of Your Nailpolishes
Do you have to empty all your nail polishes out of their container to actually find the one you are looking for? I know I do!
Try getting a few cocktail sticks and dabbing the top of your nail polishes with a little colour. Then, you can see at a glance which colour you want to go for.
6. Divide Your Drawers
You can buy drawer dividers, or even just use spare cardboard boxes. Give each type of item a place to live, and make the most of your drawer space. Not only will you be able to fit more in, but you won’t have to rummage through drawers anymore – it’ll all be there and easy to see.
7. Tray and Display
Some things are too beautiful to store. If you have a dressing table, or even just a windowsill or shelf close to where you get ready, then lay out your perfumes or prettiest palettes. Easy to see, and they add to the decor.
We hope you find these tips for storing makeup useful! This post was brought to you by Storage Vault – providing easy and safe self-storage facilities in Scotland. We love helping people make the most of their space. However, if you have enough makeup to fill a storage unit, then you might want to have a clear out!
*How do you store your makeup? Are you a fan of acrylic storage?
