Dealing With Acne ❤

March 2, 2018

Hi All!

Dealing with acne

Nobody likes to feel self-conscious, especially about the way they look. A bad skin day or a persistent problem with acne can be a big knock to someone’s confidence. There’s a lot of myths and confusion around what acne actually is, its causes and the best ways to treat it.

Understanding it, and knowing what your options are for treating it are crucial, especially when it comes to getting rid of that worry about your skin and restoring confidence.

What causes acne?

Acne is commonly caused by follicles on the skin getting blocked. This can cause the development of spots and blackheads.

There are other factors which can make acne worse, including:

Stress

Hormones

Genetics

Hormones can trigger the causes of acne, this is especially noticeable during puberty as the body begins producing different hormones in different amounts.

Genetics can also play a part in the appearance of acne. If your parents both suffered from the condition then there’s a strong likelihood that you will too.

While you can’t really do much about hormones or your genetics there are steps you can take to try and limit the appearance of acne and combat flare ups.

Taking care of your skin

Looking after your skin is important in reducing the appearance of acne. There’s a lot of different ways to treat and look after your skin. It’s important to find the ways that work best for you, as not every treatment or element of a skincare regime is going to apply to you.

Follicles getting blocked is the main cause of acne. While washing your face frequently doesn’t necessarily help with symptoms it is worth making sure anything that could cause further irritation to your skin, like dirt, grease and make-up are removed properly.

Acne can be treated with a range of topical creams, ointments and tablets. There are a range of active ingredients that you could use. Acnecide Benzoyl Peroxide Gel for example, contains benzoyl peroxide. This is an antibacterial agent that also helps to reduce the appearance of spots.

Combatting stress

Stress is another common factor in acne flair ups. While the cause isn’t determined yet, stress is seen as having an effect on acne flair ups.

Stressful situations are always going to happen, finding ways to deal with these situations safely and positively is key.

Set aside dedicated time to relax and look after yourself. Perhaps think about doing some research mindfulness techniques to help you unwind and refocus, particularly after high stress situations such as exams, presentations, job interviews etc.

While this won’t necessarily stop acne from appearing it puts you in a better mental state to deal with the problem.

Think about the treatments you use for acne, it might be worth including them within a bit of a pampering session. While not as relaxing or luxurious as you might think they do help, and tying them into a more positive and chilled out routine could be a real help in taking away some of the stress a bad skin day can cause.

Getting professional help

You might find that no matter what you do your acne won’t go away. You might also find that some spots potentially become sore. If this is the case you should go to see your GP.

They can prescribe specialised anti-biotics to help treat the condition or refer you to a dermatologist who can provide additional assessment, information and help.

Finding the right treatment for you is important, as people will react to different treatments in a different way, and nobody has the same skin, meaning you might be more prone to breakouts or more receptive to treatments than others.

Taking the steps to treat acne, through getting the right treatment, taking care of yourself and consulting a professional if necessary can help you to stop having to worry about a bad skin day.

*Do you have Acne? what have you found that help with acne?

Lots Of Love,
